What can I do to help?

I provide one on one speech therapy services in your child's natural environment. This may be your home, daycare, school, or another location that is part of your child's daily life. Below are some of the areas I treat in therapy.

Speech Sounds/Articulation

It can be frustrating for both your child and those around them when their speech errors make them difficult to understand. I can help! First, it's important to determine what kind of speech sound disorder it is (articulation or phonology). Then, we can develop specific goals and begin to teach your child to say sounds in a new way so that they can communicate without worry.

Children with language disorders may have difficulty understanding language (receptive) or communicating with others (expressive). Whether your child is a toddler or school-aged child, deficits in either domain can cause stress and frustration when communicating. Once we determine your child's areas of need, we can develop a plan to build those language skills so that they can be strong and confident communicators.

Late Talking Toddlers

Does your child appear to understand everything you are saying, but just doesn't seem to want to talk yet? Are you concerned that they aren't meeting their communication milestones?  Having a late talking toddler can be frustrating for both your child and your family. Luckily, there are a variety of tips and tools that can be utilized to challenge your toddler and help them meet their communication goals.

Did you know that there are two different ways that children develop and process language - analytic language development and gestalt language development. Analytic language development is likely what you think of when you think of young children who are learning to talk - they first learn sounds, then sound combinations, then single words, and word combinations, and so on.   Gestalt language development is the opposite - these children develop language in chunks or phrases first. Since the development is different, therapy must be different too! Understanding the process of Natural Language Acquisition for our Gestalt Language Processors is vital for success in speech therapy.
